The basics 4

01 What exactly is an empty leg flight?

A repositioning flight — a private jet flying without passengers to return to base or get into position for its next booking. Operators sell these segments at 50–75% below the standard charter rate, because any revenue beats flying the route empty. Same aircraft, same licensed operator, different price.

02 Who actually operates the flights listed on Carrington Jets?

Licensed direct air carriers — in the US, certified under FAA Part 135. Carrington Jets is an independent advisory that curates live availability; Villiers Jets, an established private jet brokerage, arranges each flight with the operator and handles contract and payment. We never operate aircraft and never take payment for flights.

03 How does Carrington Jets make money?

When a booking completes through one of our links, Villiers Jets pays us a commission. You pay nothing extra — the price you are quoted is the operator price either way. This is disclosed on every page that lists flights.

04 Are empty leg flights as safe as regular charter?

Yes. An empty leg is a standard charter flight at a different price point — the same operator certificate, crew duty-time rules, maintenance program, and insurance apply. The discount comes from scheduling economics, not from cutting corners.

Booking & pricing 4

05 Are the prices shown final?

They are the operator’s live listed prices at the time our inventory refreshes, but empty leg pricing moves — legs sell, prices drop near departure, and the primary booking behind a leg can change. Villiers Jets confirms the exact current price with the operator when you enquire, before you commit to anything.

06 How far in advance do empty legs appear?

Typically between two weeks and 24 hours before departure, with most inventory appearing inside one week. Well-priced legs on popular routes often sell within hours of listing, which is why alerts beat manually checking.

07 Is there a round-trip option?

Empty legs are one-way by nature. Regular travelers pair an outbound empty leg with an airline ticket home, or watch for a return leg on liquid routes (Florida in winter, ski metros in season). Price the full itinerary before booking — a cheap outbound with a full-charter return is not a deal.

08 What happens after I enquire on a flight?

Your enquiry goes to Villiers Jets, who verify availability and the current price directly with the operator — usually within hours. If it works for you, they email a secure booking link, handle payment and contract, and confirm your departure details. From enquiry to wheels-up can be same-day.

The flight 4

09 Can an empty leg flight be cancelled?

Yes, and this is the honest trade-off behind the discount. An empty leg exists because of someone else’s charter booking; if that booking changes or cancels, the repositioning flight can move or disappear. Cancellations are uncommon but real — never put a hard, unmissable obligation on an empty leg without a fallback plan.

10 Can I choose my departure date or time?

No. The schedule is fixed by the aircraft’s repositioning needs. Departure times can also shift by a few hours if the primary client’s plans move. What you can do is set deal alerts for your departure metro and book when a leg matches your dates — flexibility is what the discount is paying for.

11 How many passengers can fly?

Up to the seat count shown on the listing, which is the aircraft’s certified configuration. The whole aircraft is yours regardless of how many seats you fill — the price is per aircraft, not per person.

12 What about luggage, pets, and airport experience?

Luggage space depends on the aircraft: light jets hold roughly one medium bag per seat, while turboprops and larger jets take bulkier items like skis or golf bags. Pets are usually welcome in the cabin — confirm when enquiring, as it depends on the operator. You depart from a private terminal (FBO) and arrive 15–20 minutes before departure; there are no security lines.
